Because the military council is carrying out heavy attacks with airstrikes during its offensive in the Waimaw and Bhamaw areas of Kachin State, political analysts say that civilians need to travel with extra caution.
On September 2, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., three rounds of airstrikes were launched in the Waimaw-Lamyang area. The KIA (Kachin Independence Army) has also urged the remaining local residents in Waimaw-Lamyang, Mukchyik, Washawng, and nearby villages to relocate immediately, according to some locals.
“There have been calls for the people who are still left to be relocated urgently. Around noon yesterday, there were warplanes circling near Gara Yang. At night as well, there were drones flying overhead,” a local resident said.
Currently, fighting in the Waimaw area remains intense. Since the military council is deploying not only ground troops but also heavy air power, civilians are advised to move about with great caution.
On August 31, a seven year old girl was killed and four others injured due to an airstrike. It is reported that from late August, the military council has been deploying large numbers of troops to launch attacks on the Waimaw-Lamyang front.
