Election Commission Announces Elections Cannot Be Held in 121 Townships Including Four Townships in Kachin State

The Election Commission of the Military Council announced that elections cannot be held in 121 townships, including four townships in Kachin State, in the upcoming elections organized by the Military Council.It is declared that elections cannot be conducted in the townships of Chipwe, Sawlaw, Swamprabum, and Njang Yang, which are controlled and occupied by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied troops.
Furthermore, apart from Kachin State, elections cannot be held in areas controlled by ethnic armed groups and People’s Defence Forces in Shan State, Chin State, Kayah State, Rakhine State, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, and Magway Region.
It had been previously announced in late August that in the upcoming December 28 elections Part (1), elections will be held in the townships of Myitkyina, Tanai, Hpakant, Naungmon, Putao, and Mohnyin in Kachin State.
For Part (1) elections, the Election Commission also announced that there are 56 Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies, 9 FPTP constituencies for the National Assembly, and 56 FPTP constituencies for the State or Region Assembly where elections cannot be held.
