The Election Commission, under the military council, announced yesterday that both domestic and international media outlets will be allowed to freely cover news during the upcoming phased elections.

According to the statement, media organizations wishing to cover the elections will be permitted to report freely in accordance with the existing laws, rules, regulations, media ethics, and the guidelines for journalists concerning election coverage.

In addition, domestic media outlets will be permitted to assign up to four journalists per media organization to cover election-related news in the respective townships within each election district.

For international media outlets, applications must be submitted to the Ministry of Information, and only organizations and individuals verified and approved by the ministry will be issued official accreditation cards.

Journalists wishing to obtain press accreditation cards for the phased election dates must apply no later than December 12, the commission stated.
