The Election Commission has designated constituencies for the upcoming elections set to begin on December 28, and these constituencies include several townships currently controlled by resistance forces. Among them are six townships under the control of the Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA).

The elections are scheduled to take place across all 330 townships, including those under resistance control. They will be conducted under three electoral systems: First Past The Post (FPTP), Mixed-Member Proportional Representation (MMP), and Proportional Representation (PR), according to the commission’s announcement.

In Kachin State, the townships of Chipwi, Sawlaw, Sumprabum, Mansi, Momauk, and Injanyang are currently under KIA control. Other included constituencies are townships held by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and the United Wa State Army (UWSA).

According to the commission’s statement, the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) election will be held in 330 constituencies under the FPTP system. For the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) constituencies under the MMP system, there will be 84 FPTP constituencies and 26 PR constituencies, totaling 110 constituencies.

Currently, the Bhamo, Waimaw, Hpakant, and Mohnyin regions of Kachin State remain under intense military pressure, with fierce clashes continuing. At the same time, KIA joint forces are preparing ongoing operations aimed at capturing towns.
