Election Part (1) to be held in 102 Townships

The Union Election Commission announced yesterday, August 20, that the first part of the upcoming election will commence in 102 townships.


It is reported that elections will be held in 6 townships in Kachin State, 2 townships in Kayah State, 3 townships in Kayin State, 2 townships in Chin State, 5 townships in Mon State, 3 townships in Rakhine State, and 12 townships in Shan State.


According to the announcement, the townships in Kachin State where the elections will be held are Tanai, Hpakant Hkawng Lang Hpu, Njangyang, Putao, Mohnyin, and Myitkyina.


In addition, elections will take place in 12 townships in Sagaing Region, 4 townships in Tanintharyi Region, 8 townships in Bago Region, 9 townships in Magway Region, 8 townships in Mandalay Region, 12 townships in Yangon Region, 8 townships in Ayeyarwady Region, and 8 townships in Naypyidaw.


It is learned that the first part of the election will be held on December 28 this year. The election will be held in a total of 330 townships, including those currently under the control of revolutionary forces. The Union Election Commission stated that voting will be conducted under three systems: First Past the Post (FPTP), Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP), and Proportional Representation (PR).


According to the Commission’s statement, the People’s Assembly elections under the FPTP system will include 330 constituencies. For the National Assembly elections under the Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system, there will be 84 constituencies under FPTP and 26 constituencies under PR, totaling 110 constituencies.


At present, the situation in areas such as Bhamaw, Waimaw, Hpakant, and Mohnyin in Kachin State remains tense, with ongoing battles. The KIA and aligned joint forces are also carrying out city seizure offensives.
