Myitkyina airport was temporarily closed on the morning of March 9th, as flights were no longer allowed to take off and operate.

All flights from Mandalay to Myitkyina have been canceled and flights from Yangon to Myitkyina have also been forced to return from Mandalay to Yangon.

According to the current situation, the emergency temporary cancellation of all flights to Myitkyina is due to the artillery shells fired from Myitkyina Military base to the clash’s areas of Waingmaw were passing over Myitkyina airport, said a person close to the airport.

“When the artillery shells passed over the airport, the airport commanders ordered all flights to be canceled. All entry and exit points at Myitkyina airport are closed,” said the person above.

These artillery shells may have been the artillery shells fired towards Shwe Nyaung Pin and Aung Myay (1) where the clashes have been occurring. In addition, the locals in Myitkyina also reported that they heard the sounds of heavy artillery firing this morning.

Myitkyina Airport is closed and all the flights are canceled today, and Pajau Media is still investigating when it will reopen. In addition, Bhamo airport has been closed indefinitely since March 7.

The clashes have been intense in Kachin State these days. And due to the clashes between the Kachin Independence Army KIA and the SAC, which is taking place along the Myitkyina-Waingmaw road, locals are trapped in Aung Myay(2) Village of Waingmaw Township and are in need of help.
