Erecting A Stone Warning Pillar Prohibiting Gold Mining, Logging And Electro-Fishing in Lung Sha Yang Village, Putao Township

According to Lung Sha Yang administrator, a stone warning pillar that prohibits illegal Gold Mining along the Lung Sha Kha creek, logging and electro-fishing was erected in Lungsha Yang village, Putao Township, on February 25.

“Recently, within the village there are more people logging, migrant upland planting, electro-fishing and more people came to mine gold along the Lung Sha Kha Creek. Although it has repeatedly forbidden those activities, there are still people who don’t follow it. Therefore, a stone warning pillar has been erected in the center of the village. So that we can take effective action to people who keep doing those activities,” said Lung Sha Yang village group administrator U Pasi Hting Nan.

The reasons for erecting the warning stone that prohibits illegal gold mining, logging and electro-fishing are to protect the locals who will suffer the side effects from natural disasters and to take effective action against the entrepreneurs who come to start doing those activities after the official announcement.

In that warning stone, the text that says “No gold should be mined along Lung Sha Kha creek and other creeks, do not cut the woods and bamboos, do not do an upland planting, do not take out sandstone from the creek and either fishing with a destructive device or a destructive fishing method within the area of Lung Sha Yang Village group are not allowed,” are included.

Lung Sha Creek is a creek that flows through the center of Lung Sha Yang Village and is important as the lifeline of the local residents.

Another local resident said that the reason for protecting the creek is to protect the environment from the damages caused by the greedy businessmen.

In addition, the entrepreneurs came to test gold mining along Lung Sha Creek several times with large machinery last year. The local residents have been able to forbid it many times, until today.

Lung Sha Yang village group is the second largest village group in Putao Township. There are a total of (13) villages and more than (5,000) people live there.
