Facebook (Meta) has removed a total of 270 pages, groups, and profile accounts linked to businesses controlled by the military junta and to propaganda activities, according to a statement released by Justice For Myanmar.
Most of the removed accounts were involved in selling Mytel products and services, while the remaining accounts were connected to subsidiaries and brand related pages of major military conglomerates, including Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC) and Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL).
The removed accounts also included those linked to MECtel telecommunications, Innwa Bank and Myawaddy Bank, Sin Min Cement, Myanmar Beer and Dagon Beer brands, as well as Nan Myint Café and Indoor Skydiving related accounts.
Facebook also removed military propaganda accounts such as a Light for Justice 3, News Service Station, and Myanmar Information Community.
These accounts were reportedly used to support the military, which continues to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity with impunity.
The action was taken in line with policies implemented by Meta, Facebook’s parent company, since 2021, which prohibit military controlled businesses and media entities. Justice For Myanmar has also urged companies such as Alphabet, Apple, TikTok, and Telegram to immediately ban propaganda and business related accounts linked to the Myanmar military, which is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity without facing accountability.
