According to frontline sources, intense clashes continued until May 22 between the Military Council forces and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) allied troops near Namtin and TantarNyi Naung villages in Hpakant Township, Kachin State.

An anonymous source reported, “The Military Council forces suddenly retreated but then launched a counterattack towards Namtin and TantarNyi Naung, which triggered fierce fighting.”

The Military Council troops were advancing about 5 to 6 miles towards the villages when the KIA allied troops mounted a strong defense. It is also reported that the Hpakant strategic hill troops provided heavy artillery support during the clashes.

On May 22, the Military Council forces and the Shan State Army-North launched an offensive towards Sanwin Hill, where the KIA’s 26th Battalion and other KIA units are positioned, resulting in further battles.

The Military Council aims to regain control of Hpakant Township and has been conducting offensive operations around Namtin and TantarNyi Naung villages. Both sides remain engaged in ongoing clashes, with the KIA allied forces also mounting counterattacks and blockades. This situation may lead to intensified fighting in some parts of the Hpakant road area.

Additionally, on the night of May 19, the Military Council forces shelled the Hpakant strategic hill area with heavy artillery, and on May 21, they again provided artillery support during attacks.
