Fierce Clashes in Hpakant, Kachin State Cause Civilian Casualties

Due to ongoing intense clashes in Hpakant, Kachin State, artillery shells have been landing and exploding in residential areas, resulting in daily civilian casualties.

On the morning of June 17, during fighting near Maw Si Sar, Buddha Hill, and Thayar Kone, an artillery shell fired by the military exploded in a house in Maw Si Sar village, killing one civilian and injuring at least five others.
The person killed by the artillery shell was U Labang La Pa Gum Hpan, a man in his 60s, who died instantly while at home with his wife when the shell struck their house. His wife also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Similarly, in Kade Village, Hpakant, an artillery shell fired indiscriminately by the military from a base in Mazup Yan exploded, injuring three members of a family, including a child.
Currently, areas such as Lone Khin group, Maw Si Sar, Kode, and Thayar Kone in Hpakant remain tense, with daily clashes continuing between the two sides.
