Clashes broke out at around 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning in the area of Battalion No. (14) under KIA Brigade No. (2), after joint forces of the military council and the Min Zay Thant People’s Militia advanced with troop movements, according to sources.
The military council’s joint forces have been launching attacks on the Hugawng region since December 10 using airstrikes and heavy weapons. As the fighting escalated, ground troops have also continued advancing, prompting the KIA to respond with defensive counterattacks, sources said.
At present, fighting between the two sides remains intense and the military situation is tense. It is also reported that the military council’s joint forces have suffered significant casualties.
Meanwhile, in the Tanai gold mining area, civilians have been forced to flee as airstrikes continue and daily vigilance is required. Ground troops have reportedly been looting property from homes left behind by residents who fled the area.
