Fighting has been breaking out almost daily near the Waimaw-Lamyang area as the junta forces continue shelling and drone attacks from the Myitkyina side, while also launching ground offensives, according to reports.
The clashes between junta troops and resistance forces in the Waimaw-Lamyang region have been intermittent, with fighting intensifying again yesterday. Since early October, gunfire has been heard nearly every day, a local source said.
“In the past, we only heard artillery fire, but no gunshots. Since around 7 a.m. on October 3, heavy shelling began, followed by continuous gunfire. The sounds can even be heard near Maina and surrounding areas, and it’s likely happening toward Nawng Hkyi and Jam Ga villages. The fighting has been daily, and there are reports that the junta’s 58th Battalion in Waimaw is preparing a counteroffensive before the election,” the resident said.
It is reported that since August, the junta troops and joint allied Militia Forces have been launching attacks in the Waimaw-Lamyang area in an effort to retake control of Kanpaiti and Pangwa regions.
Between September 29 and October 5, there were as many as five clashes in Bhamaw, Waimaw, and Hpakant areas of Kachin State, according to the KIA information office.
Similarly, in the Bhamaw area, junta forces have intensified their attacks with ground troops, airstrikes, drone bombings, and heavy artillery, with daily clashes still ongoing.
