Five More Civilians Injured in Military Drone Strike in Hpakant

It has been learned that on the morning of August 18, at around 10:30 a.m., without any clashes taking place, the military council carried out a drone bombing on areas where civilians were present in Hpakant Township, resulting in injuries to five local civilians.


“A bomb fell near the 7 Star Company, another one at the entrance of Bazun stream, and two more towards the side of Seng Tawng. Four civilians were injured,” said one local resident.


On the same day, around 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon, artillery shells also landed and exploded in Tonebu Ward, Mashikahtaung, causing injury to another civilian, according to reports.


“They said it also fell near

Mashi Kahtawng, at the bridge in Tonebo Ward. A woman who was hit there was sent to the hospital,” the resident added.


The civilians injured in the drone bombings include Daw Mya Kyi, age 85; Daw Aye Aye Khaing, age 48; Ma May Kyel Zin, age 15; an unidentified male inside the company compound; and another unidentified civilian in Tonebu Ward. They sustained various injuries from shrapnel to their arms, legs, right hand, and other parts of their bodies.


In recent days, fighting around the Hpakant area has intensified. In addition to this, the military council troops have been continuously carrying out drone bombings, artillery fire, and airstrikes against locations where civilians are gathered, even in the absence of clashes.
