Due to heavy rains, Lawar IDPs who had fled from conflict are now facing worsening conditions caused by flooding.
Continuous rains over the past days resulted in flooding in the areas where the Lawar Internally Displaced People have taken shelter, particularly on the morning of July 17. It has led to hardships including food shortages, lack of sleeping spaces, impassable roads, and difficulties for students commuting to school.
In addition to their ongoing needs for food, shelter, medical supplies, clean drinking water, and household necessities, the recent flooding has further exacerbated their challenges, reports say.
The Lawar IDPs have been displaced since March when joint forces of the military council and Militia forces began deploying troops in Lawar village areas. This led to clashes with the KIA (Kachin Independence Army), forcing civilians to seek refuge and remain displaced to this day.
