It has been reported that in the Putao region of Kachin State, the military junta has been carrying out forced portering and arrests of civilians.
According to reports, junta troops stationed in military bases located in areas such as Lungsha Yang and Hkawng Lang Hpu in Putao have been entering villages one after another, detaining young people and men of eligible age for forced portering.
Locals say that some civilians who were taken for forced portering during the junta’s military operations have been held for 2 to 3 days, while some have not been released for nearly a week.
Due to the increasing number of forced portering cases, many young people and men from villages near the junta’s military bases in Putao are fleeing into forests and mountainous areas to avoid being taken.
It is also learned that as the junta continues to reinforce troops daily and conduct military operations in the Putao region, they are simultaneously arresting civilians for forced portering, causing fear and anxiety among local residents in the area.
