Former Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) Chairman U Lanyaw Zawng Hkra Passes Away at 87

The former chairman of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), U Lanyaw Zawng Hkra, passed away this morning, May 15, at 7:15 AM.

The former chairman, U Zawng Hkra, had been ill for a long time before passing away at his home this morning. At the time of his death, he was 87 years old.

U Zawng Hkra served as the KIO chairman from July 2006 to December 2017 and stepped down from the position in early 2018.

He graduated from Yangon University in 1960 and joined the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in 1964, where he served in various roles.
