Although the Myitkyina-Putao route can normally be completed within a single day, locals report that in recent days, due to intensified roadblock inspections, the journey now takes an overnight stop to complete.
“Now they check in detail. They search everything loaded in the vehicles. At the Tanghpre checkpoint, the inspections are especially strict. If they suspect someone, they check even more thoroughly. After 6 p.m., they don’t allow anyone to pass. Every gate stops and inspects, so instead of arriving within a day, it gets delayed,” a local traveler from Putao said.
Travelers coming down from Putao are unable to pass Tanghpre checkpoint after 6 p.m. and are forced to stay overnight in Tiyangzup village. It is reported that at Tanghpre, inspections focus more heavily on vehicles heading up than those coming down, with time restrictions imposed on vehicles allowed to pass.
In addition, those engaged in hillside farming, gold panning, and cultivating crops for livelihood above Tanghpre face many difficulties. Junta troops are conducting not only roadside inspections but also checks inside towns, and recently, phone inspections have become more frequent as well.
