Frequent Robberies Reported in Hpakant Area

Residents report that robbery incidents have been occurring more frequently in Hpakant area, Kachin State, in recent days.

Due to ongoing military offensives in Hpakant, daily clashes continue between the two sides, and taking advantage of the unstable situation, robbery cases have been increasing, according to local sources.

“Robberies have been happening almost every day in recent days. Since clashes are taking place continuously, they are taking advantage of that and committing more robberies,” a local resident said.

It is reported that armed groups are threatening civilians with guns and robbing cars, motorcycles, cash, gold, and jewelry.

In Hpakant area alone, there were no fewer than 20 robbery incidents in the month of November, according to local sources.
