In Myitkyina, Kachin State, fuel powered vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, have been banned from operating every Wednesday. According to local residents, those who fail to comply with the regulation will face arrest and legal action.
On Wednesday, March 25, authorities conducted a trial phase by stopping and detaining fuel-powered vehicles traveling within Myitkyina. Drivers were taken to Police Station No. (1), where they received warning and awareness briefings. It is reported that full enforcement, including arrests, will begin from the coming Wednesday.
However, electric cars and electric motorcycles are exempt from this restriction. Additionally, starting from March 25, the National Defense and Security Council has announced that government employees should work from home on Wednesdays.
In Myitkyina, authorities have already been consistently enforcing regulations such as vehicle license checks, motorcycle helmet use, side mirrors, and number plates.
