Following an announcement by the military council urging fuel conservation stating that fuel-powered vehicles should not go out every Wednesday and that all office staff should work from home, authorities have begun arresting fuel-powered vehicles traveling within Myitkyina today, according to local sources.

In front of the railway station compound, near KBZ Bank, armed police officers are reportedly waiting in private cars to monitor and arrest vehicles.

On the previous Wednesday, vehicles and motorcycles traveling within the city were also detained and taken to Police Station No. (1), where talks were given before they were released. However, this week, residents say authorities have started making actual arrests.

As a result, fuel-powered vehicles are now extremely rare on the city’s main roads and side streets. Only a few battery-powered vehicles can be seen, making the entire city noticeably quiet, locals said.

Although the military council has issued instructions for vehicles to be driven on an odd-even basis and for both government employees and private workers to work from home every Wednesday, there has been no official announcement regarding the arrest or legal action against fuel-powered vehicles on Wednesdays.
