Due to fuel shortages and a sharp increase in fuel prices, transportation fares between Myitkyina and Mandalay have also risen, according to local sources.
On the Myitkyina-Mandalay route, fares vary depending on the direction of travel and the type of vehicle. Travelers say that ticket prices now range from 250,000 kyats to 500,000 kyats per person.
Currently, fuel prices across the country, including in Myitkyina, are on the rise. This is attributed to fuel supply disruptions across Asia caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Before the outbreak of conflicts in the Middle East, passengers only had to pay around 130,000 kyats per person for the Myitkyina-Mandalay route. However, since the first week of March, fares have increased significantly depending on the type of vehicle.
Due to the country’s internal security situation, this route has long been forced to use bypass roads. Combined with poor road conditions and frequent vehicle damage, transportation costs had already been rising even before the current fuel price surge.
At present, the price of 92 octane fuel in Myitkyina has reached up to 13,000 kyats per liter, while premium diesel in Mandalay is reported to be over 5,000 kyats per liter.
