Gold Shop in Myitkyina Robbed at Knifepoint in Broad Daylight

According to local residents, three men wearing motorcycle helmets and armed with guns entered and robbed the Shwe San Li gold shop in Awng Nan Ward, in the center of Myitkyina town, at around 4:00 PM yesterday.

It is reported that the three men entered the gold shop, pointed their guns at the people inside, and robbed the shop at knifepoint, making off with the jewelry and valuable items inside.

As the Shwe San Li gold shop is both a diamond and jewelry retailer and an authorized pawnshop, the exact losses from the robbery are not yet known in detail.

It has been learned that in recent days, there has been a continuous series of thefts, robberies, and hold ups in Myitkyina town.

Residents say that while Myitkyina is the capital of Kachin State, the Military Council is attempting to hold an election in the town and is carrying out targeted arrests of civilians and military conscription.
