Government staff in Myitkyina Township, Kachin State, have been required to sign a pledge not to use illegal motor vehicles and motorcycles, according to an announcement from the Township Education Office in Myitkyina.

This directive comes after the State Administration Council (SAC) declared nationwide crackdowns on unlicensed vehicles starting June 1. On May 31, the Myitkyina Township Education Office issued a notice mandating that government employees sign the pledge to comply with the order.

Reports indicate that in Myitkyina, arrests are not limited to daytime but also occur after 8 p.m., targeting cars, motorcycles, and even some youths, with financial penalties being imposed.

Currently, a majority of cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles in use in Myitkyina are unlicensed, forcing residents to exercise caution. Over the past week, more than 40 unlicensed cars and motorcycles have been seized.
