Although there are currently no reported cases of Nipah virus infection in Myanmar, the Health Ministry has issued a warning because the disease can be transmitted through fruits and raw milk. People are advised not to travel unnecessarily to India, particularly to the West Bengal State, where the virus is prevalent.
Myanmar citizens are urged to avoid non essential travel to India, West Bengal State. If returning from travel, anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, and sore throat, or in severe cases, neurological symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, or seizures, should immediately report to the relevant health authorities.
This precaution is being taken in response to the ongoing Nipah virus outbreaks in the neighboring Indian state of West Bengal.
It has been reported that Nipah virus can be transmitted through raw milk and can also be spread from animals. The virus can be transmitted via blood, body fluids, and excretions. The modes of transmission include animal to human, through contaminated food, and human to human contact.
The Nipah virus has been classified by WHO as a disease requiring special attention, and as of now, there is no available vaccine to prevent it.
