In Kachin State, on the Waimaw frontline, the military junta has been carrying out daily artillery shelling and drone bomb attacks, according to reports.

The Waimaw area is also home to a large number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled due to ongoing clashes. As a result of the junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks, displaced civilians are increasingly worried that the fighting will further intensify.

Previously, on the morning of December 15, artillery units from the Northern Command (Ma Pa Kha) fired up to 10 rounds toward the Waimaw-Naung Si Paw area, damaging a church hall and civilian homes, a local resident told Pajau Media.

Although preparations are underway to hold a nationwide election, the security situation in Kachin State remains unstable. Between December 8 and 14, a total of 48 clashes were reported across the state within a single week.

Similarly, between December 1 and 7, 15 clashes occurred. As the election period draws closer, the junta has intensified its military operations, with frequent fighting reported between junta forces and KIA led allied forces.

In the area under KIA Brigade No. (2), military activities by joint junta forces and the Min Zay Thant Militia have also increased, leading to rising tensions between the opposing sides.
