Fierce clashes are ongoing between the joint forces of the military council against the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Putao and Hkawng Lang Hpu township of Kachin State, a township included in the upcoming election zones.
Recently, military operations have intensified near Tanja Village between Putao and Lung Sha Yang, as well as in Machagbaw. Locals said the military is attempting to seize control of these areas before the election.
Although the military council has announced that elections will be held in Myitkyina, Tanai, Mohnyin, Putao, and Hkawng Lang Hpu in Kachin State, both Putao and Hkawng Lang Hpu areas remain under military reinforcement. Pro-military and pro-joint force demonstrations were also reported in early October.
While the Tanja area had not previously experienced armed clashes or heightened military tensions, fighting has now intensified, and road blockades have caused significant travel difficulties for residents.
Since fighting erupted near Tanja Village on October 11, some eastern routes have been blocked, leaving certain travelers stranded. It was also reported that students who need to attend school are currently unable to travel due to the restrictions.
