Fierce fighting is ongoing around the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 58 base of the Waingmaw town guard in Waingmaw. Military tensions remain high, with daily clashes reported. Artillery support is also reportedly being provided intensively from the Myitkyina-based regional military command (MaPaKha) and from Man Pya Taung.

“We constantly hear heavy artillery fire day and night. Even around midnight yesterday, they were firing from Man Pya Taung. At Bala Min Htin Bridge, two military trucks full of soldiers have been deployed. As the fighting intensifies, it seems they are reinforcing security at the bridge,” said a local resident.

Residents also reported that with two military trucks parked on the bridge, the road has become narrow and travel is more difficult.

At around 11 a.m. on February 13, an aircraft reportedly carried out an airstrike in Waingmaw–Tarlaw Gyi village. Civilian casualties have been reported, though further investigation is ongoing to confirm details.

On the Waingmaw front, since the morning of February 12, joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have reportedly launched offensive attacks against LIB 58 and positions near Man Pya Taung. The military council is also said to have conducted bombing raids using an Mil Mi-35 helicopter gunship.

Currently, in addition to Waingmaw in Kachin State, military tensions are escalating in Bhamo, Hpakant, and Tanai. Civilian casualties and deaths due to heavy artillery shelling continue to occur on a daily basis.
