Heavy Rains Cause Damage and Disruption in Putao Region

Continuous heavy rainfall in the Putao area has severely damaged the Putao-Khaunglanhpu road, making transportation difficult and raising concerns among locals about the upcoming farming season. Residents report that since January, persistent rain has worsened road conditions, especially towards Khaunglanhpu, with some areas becoming impassable and reports of fatalities due to landslides.

The heavy rains in mid-April also triggered landslides and further road damage, making it challenging for locals to access their fields during the critical planting period. Meteorologist U Win Naing has forecast more rain and potential flooding in Kachin State and other regions between May 17 and 19, adding to concerns about agricultural disruptions.
