A house in Htan Ta Pin village, Mohnhyin Township, caught fire early this morning around 4 a.m. after being struck by lightning, according to a local resident.
"Electricity in Mohnhyin has been down for about a week now. Due to insufficient power, electricity has been supplied on a rotating schedule. At around 4:45 a.m. this morning, the electricity came back on and as we were switching things off, we smelled something burning. We got up to check and found out it was the neighboring house, which is unoccupied, that was on fire. Although there is a guard at that house, the fire was inside the main locked building. The fire truck only arrived after 6 a.m. and had to refill water three times to extinguish the fire," said a neighbor who lives near the affected house.
The house that caught fire is located adjacent to an office in Htan Ta Pin village. As the house was unoccupied and used only as a storage space with the doors locked, all the goods inside were destroyed by the fire, the source added.
Previously, Mohnhyin Township received its electricity from the Nabar power station, but due to technical difficulties with the Nabar line, power is currently being supplied in shifts from the Chipwe power station for the past week, it was further learned.
