Residents of the Hpakant area held a protest today, September 9, against the illegal election planned by the military council (SAC), according to local sources.

Protesters carried signs with messages such as:

"Boycott the illegal, sham election; march bravely on the federal path."

"The democratic change made by the military dictator will be like a pimp running a prostitution eradication campaign."

"Let's unite and fight to uproot our common enemy, the dictators."

"We reject the Chinese government, which turns a blind eye to the people's will and supports the military dictators."

"For the eradication of the military dictatorship, we urge all people to participate together until the very end."

The demonstrations were reportedly held in the Hpakant, Gwi Hka, Lone Khin, and Seng Tawng areas.

While the military commission is striving to hold a nationwide election in December and is making utmost efforts to conduct it in some areas of Kachin State, intense conflict continues in Hpakant, Bhamaw, and Momauk regions. Recently, the military has been conducting severe offensive operations with full strength in these areas .

Hpakant locals have urged the public to universally oppose and refuse to participate in the illegal election orchestrated by the military commission.

The people of Hpakant have stated their complete rejection of this election. Recently, the military situation in the Hpakant area has intensified, and heavy weapon shelling continues to occur frequently .
