From August 1 to 31, a total of fourteen (14) civilians in Kachin State were killed by weapons and fifty three (53) sustained injuries, according to a report from Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW)

Between August 1 and 15, forty five (45) civilians were injured by weapons and nine (9) were killed, while from August 16 to 31, eight ( civilians were injured and five (5) were killed.

The attacks involved the military council firing artillery and drones targeting residential homes and public roads, and it was reported that among the victims killed were children and students.

KHRW urged further action and accountability against those leading and carrying out such targeted attacks, as well as against organizations that support and assist the military junta’s human rights violations.

Additionally, KHRW requested increased humanitarian assistance, including healthcare, psychological support, and basic necessities for the injured, children, women, and displaced civilians.

It was noted that at a time when the military council is intensifying election campaigns, the use of heavy weapons in indiscriminate attacks targeting the public has been escalating.
