In Waimaw Township, Conflicts Intensifying

As conflicts in Kachin State are intensifying day by day. On the night of August 8, continuous heavy artillery fire was heard in the Wuyan village area of Waimaw Township.

 On August 9, at about 1:40 p.m., the sounds of gunfire and artillery were continuously heard. From Mai Na village, the sound of airstrikes dropping bombs and heavy artillery fire could be clearly heard, causing local residents to be very worried.

According to frontline reporters, the SAC is planning to retake Waimaw and Kanpaiti. They are trying advance daily, when it rains, they push forward with infantry battalion and heavy artillery fire; when the weather is sunny, they conduct airstrikes. This has been happening continuously.

Political observers say that because the SAC-led election is approaching, they want to fully capture Waimaw Township so that they can conduct the election freely and easily.

The Mai Na-Nang Zaw-Laiza road is still used by the public, but due to the ongoing conflict, people must find alternative routes depending on the security situation.
