In Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, the military junta and allied Shan Ni Militia forces have intensified new troop recruitment and are conducting strict inspections of travelers, according to sources.

“The entire road is filled with junta troops and Militia members. There are checkpoints, and they also stop and question people along the way. Just a short walk, and you’ll encounter another checkpoint—they’re everywhere. They mainly check phones, and if they suspect someone, they take them to the checkpoint. I was interrogated for about an hour—searched from head to toe,” said a traveler going from Mohnyin to Myitkyina.

Joint junta forces have reportedly detained some travelers during inspections. Additionally, aggressive recruitment drives are ongoing in the Mohnyin-Nant Mun area.

“The Shan Ni are forcefully recruiting new troops, even targeting mothers with children. Some Kachin people are fleeing due to excessive conscription, leaving civilians too afraid to go anywhere,” said a local elder from Nant Mun.

It has also been reported that on April 23, nine displaced villagers from Nant Mun, who were fleeing clashes in Sanun Kone village, were arrested by the Shan Ni Militia. As of now, there has been no news of their release.

Furthermore, since April 7, hundreds of junta troops have launched military operations in Mohnyin and Inndaw townships. The area remains tense, with ongoing clashes between revolutionary joint forces and the military, forcing some locals to flee.
