As the military council increases its military operations in Kachin State, it has also intensified registration checks and arrests of travelers, according to drivers.
In recent days, on the Myitkyina-Tanai road section, registration checks and inspections of travelers have become more frequent and stringent. Even goods transported by vehicles are being inspected by stabbing and prodding with knives.
The intensified registration checks on the Myitkyina-Tanai road section, which began in early September, are believed to be aimed at identifying and arresting Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) employees. Drivers speculate that these measures are specifically targeting CDM participants.
At the 21 mile gate on the Tanai road, phone inspections and detailed registration checks using modern equipment have led to the arrest of several CDM employees whose identities were verified during these checks.
Similarly, at the Bala Min Htin Bridge, which connects Myitkyina and Waimaw, police, soldiers, and traffic controllers have reinforced their presence and are conducting more aggressive inspections of motorcycles and other vehicles.
Additionally, in recent days, military personnel fully armed with weapons have been conducting random stop and search operations at intersections and road junctions within Myitkyina city. This has caused significant concern among locals regarding their freedom of movement.
