As of midday today, June 17, fierce clashes are ongoing between KIA and junta forces in the Hpakant area. Since 4:20 pm on June 16, fighting has been taking place between the joint junta-PDF forces and the joint KIA forces between Maw Wan Gyi and Maw Wan Kalay in Hpakant.
Due to the intensity of the clashes, most residents in the area have fled to safer locations, while some people remain trapped inside the villages.
Similarly, in Maw Si Sa village group of Lone Khin, the sounds of heavy and small arms fire have been heard since 9 am today. Although explosions from heavy artillery have also been reported, the exact locations and casualties are still unknown.
Junta joint forces are reportedly firing both heavy and small arms from the Hpakant base toward the conflict zones. Residents have been warned to be cautious when traveling, as military columns may still be present not only in Maw Si Sa but also in areas such as Kade Maw and Tharya Kone.
Recently, junta forces have been conducting continuous military operations in the Hpakant area, leading to frequent clashes with the KIA. Civilian casualties from sudden attacks are being reported on a daily basis.
