Intensified Anti-Drug Operations Continue In Militarily Tense Hpakant Area

In the militarily tense Hpakant region, KIO anti-drug task forces, in cooperation with community based anti-drug groups, have continued to carry out a series of anti-drug operations, according to a statement released by the KIA Information Department. These operations have resulted in the arrest of drug dealers and users along with the confiscation of related items.
It is learned that anti-drug operations had been temporarily suspended during June, July, and August due to renewed military tensions and clashes in the Hpakant area. However, activities resumed in September.
Within a month, authorities apprehended 16 drug dealers and users, along with 1,624 yaba tablets, 250 small packets yaba, 27 large heroin pipes, 28 small pipes, and 5 black heroin packets. Mobile phones, motorcycles, and cash were also seized and handed over to the relevant departments.
The KIO administration stated that drugs are a common enemy of all nationalities, and therefore, anti-drug operations are being actively implemented across Kachin State. The seized items are being processed according to procedures, and efforts continue intensively in towns and villages as part of their ongoing anti-drug campaign.
It is also reported that in the border areas of Kanpaiti, Chihpwi, and Pangwa where opium cultivation was once common under the previous border guard forces. The current KIO Anti-Drug Committees are conducting vigorous and continuous anti-drug operations.
