In Hpakant, Kachin State, the military council has been launching full scale offensives since November 9, and locals report that the military continues to kill innocent civilians in villages.
At around 10 p.m. on November 10, junta troops reportedly entered hotels where civilians were staying and conducted searches. During that time, two civilians returning from Maw Si Zar by motorcycle were also shot dead by junta soldiers.
In addition to carrying out military operations in Hpakant, the junta forces have been known to conduct indiscriminate airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks not only in active conflict zones but also in non combat areas whenever they suffer casualties during battles.
At around 1:30 p.m. on November 11, a Y-12 aircraft flew over the area and dropped at least ten bombs toward Taung Maw, Kahtan Yang, and Kanshi areas. One of the bombs struck a house in Kahtan Yang Village, Lone Khin Village Tract, killing one woman and injuring a child.
Although the Hpakant area had been relatively calm during mid October, clashes between the military council and joint resistance forces resumed once again starting from November 9 following renewed military offensives.
Reports indicate that the military commission has been carrying out continuous troop offensives in Hpakant with the aim of holding elections in the region.
