Junta Airstrikes and Machine Gun Fire near Sharaw Hka, Maumaw Layang, and Maumaw Hill Villages of Hpakant

In Hpakant Township, Kachin State, where intense fighting is ongoing, near Sharaw Hka, Maumaw Layang, and Maumaw Hill villages, the military council launched an air attack around 12 noon today, August 15, and also fired machine guns, according to local sources.
“Around 12 o’clock, they came by aircraft and dropped bombs. After that, they also fired with machine guns,” said a local resident.
In Sharaw Hka Village, Ahmaik Pon Village, and Yuma Village, fighting continues, and due to the military council’s shelling with heavy weapons, there have been civilian casualties and deaths, it is reported.
The military council captured the Nyaung Pin Kone outpost in Sharaw Hka Village area, which is connected to the Hpakant-Seik Mu road controlled by Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces, on August 1, and then on August 4, the KIA joint forces launched a counterattack and retook it.
In Hpakant area, heavy fighting is occurring daily, and as the military council may continue carrying out airstrikes, the KIA and resistance forces have warned civilians to be extra cautious.
In addition to ongoing offensives in Hpakant area, the military council is also conducting intense offensives along the Hpakant-Kamai road, which has been going on for nearly four days.
