Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the military, said that voting or not voting in the upcoming election to be held by the military this December is merely the will of the people.
He made this remark at the opening ceremony of the Agriculture and Livestock University in Ma U Bin, Ayeyarwady Region, held yesterday, November 23.
He stated that, as a nation, the right to vote has been arranged for everyone, and that choosing to vote or not vote is simply the decision of the voters.
“In reality, even though they say that, I think they will pressure people, threaten them, and arrest those who don’t vote. You can’t say anything. If you don’t do exactly what they say, it won’t be acceptable to them,” a local resident expressed their opinion.
The first election to be held by the military will begin on December 28 and will take place in 102 townships. In Kachin State, the participating townships include Myitkyina, Tanai, Hkawnglangphu, Njangyang, Putao, and Mohnyin.
The National Unity Government (NUG) and resistance forces have rejected the election, saying it is merely an illegitimate and fake election organized by the military.
