Since August 21, junta forces have launched large scale military offensives in the Hpakant region, during which civilians have also been arrested and taken away, according to reports.
On August 24, the military advanced with offensives from the Nam Maw and Maw Si Zar areas near Hpakant, where nine civilians were detained and taken away. However, as of now, there has been no information about their release, a local resident said.
Since August 21, troops advancing from the Nam Ya road have reinforced strategic positions at Hpakant, Tatmakone and Kan Si hills.
Currently, junta troops have stationed themselves from Hpakant-Lawa to the farmlands in Lone Khin, while troops operating around Hpakant are conducting intense identity checks and searches along roads for local travelers, locals said.
In addition to launching large scale military troop movements into the Hpakant area, the junta is also carrying out daily indiscriminate shelling with heavy artillery, which has reportedly caused rising civilian casualties in recent days.
