Due to heavy rainfall, Kachin State is currently experiencing floods. In the Sadung region, particularly in the upper part of Bumwa village and Sama Hkawt village, flash floods occurred in the early morning of June 2, 2025, sweeping away two local residents.
A Sadung local stated:“On the early morning of June 2, while a deacon was preparing breakfast, her husband called out that the flood was coming and urged her to run. She said she would just finish cooking breakfast, but while she was cooking, she was swept away by the flood. The water flow has not subsided yet.”
Those swept away by the flood include a 50-year-old deacon named Khawng Nywe and a male relative who was with her.
According to locals, flash floods and rising waters have persisted since the morning and remain strong at the present time.
Currently, the village most affected by the flash floods is Sama Hkawt village, located along Road No. 8. This is a small village with nearly 30 households.
Additionally, there are reports that some people traveling along the roads have also been swept away by the strong floodwaters. However, Pajau Media has not been able to independently verify these claims and is still investigating.
