It has been reported that in the battles of Bhamaw, some positions held by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied resistance forces have been relinquished.
According to reports, the joint KIA forces lost control of the 5014 Armored Battalion and the 236th Light Infantry Battalion, both of which had previously been seized. This followed heavy aerial bombardments as well as ground offensives by junta troops, resulting in their recapture on September 11.
Since early August, when navy vessels arrived in the Bhamaw area, the junta has reinforced its positions with additional weapons supplies, intensifying battles up to the present. The offensive to capture Bhamaw has now lasted nearly nine months, during which both sides have suffered heavy casualties.
Analysts note that such losses of previously seized bases are a result of the junta’s use of aircraft, drone bombs, and advanced weaponry during its counteroffensive operations.
