The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces have intensified their offensive since early this morning to fully capture the remaining strongholds of the Myanmar military’s 21st Military Operations Command (MOC-21) in Bhamo, Kachin State. Frontline sources report that some defensive positions held by MOC-21 have already been seized.

“The battle to capture Bhamo has been ongoing since last year, nearing six months. Starting this morning, we launched a decisive assault to completely take control,” a frontline source said.

The offensive to seize Bhamo began on December 4, 2024, and after nearly six months of fighting, the KIA-led forces are now pushing to capture the remaining military outposts, including the MOC-21 headquarters.

Since around 4 a.m. on May 27, clashes have escalated around MOC-21, with KIA allied forces successfully capturing the Win Light Hotel, a junta-held position.

Junta troops, stationed above the captured Win Light Hotel, are providing covering fire using drones and sniper rifles. Meanwhile, KIA allied forces continue their assault to fully secure the remaining military bases.

The junta is fiercely resisting the fall of Bhamo with airstrikes, heavy artillery, and drone attacks. However, due to weather conditions, there have been no airstrikes in today’s renewed offensive.

Over the six-month battle for Bhamo, KIA allied forces have seized several key junta command centers and outposts, while also destroying armored vehicles, tanks, and helicopters.
