A group of military vessels that had docked overnight in Tigyaing and continued upriver toward Bhamo were ambushed by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied resistance forces. The attack occurred in the upper reaches of Shwegu, with video footage confirming that one vessel was hit on July 29.

According to sources, the joint KIA resistance forces launched strikes against the military flotilla on both July 27 and July 29. During the latest attack, one vessel carrying weapons and military supplies under tarpaulin covering was reportedly damaged in the afternoon of July 29.

Due to the ambush by KIA and its allied forces, foot soldiers accompanying the flotilla along the riverbank for security were also forced to retreat. It’s reported that the flotilla was attempting to transport supplies upriver toward Bhamo.

These military vessels were reportedly carrying reinforcements and weaponry to aid government troops engaged in the battle for Bhamo. In addition to river transport, the military has been conducting daily airstrikes using aircraft and drones, as well as launching ground offensives in an effort to retain control of the city.
