The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has issued a warning prohibiting civilians and vehicles from traveling along the Hpakant-Kamaing-Mogaung road. However, according to a source close to the KIA, military junta forces are still allowing vehicles to pass through.

The source said, “Drivers are coming because the military side is allowing passage. But they don’t know if there are ambushes or landmines ahead, or if the route has been cleared. Locals have already been warned not to travel towards Hpakant due to the current military situation. Still, some people continue to risk the journey, even though there is a constant threat to their lives.”

On May 29, junta forces advanced in full strength from Mogaung-Kamaing road into the Hpakant area, leading to the road closure.

Additionally, frequent clashes between the junta and KIA joint forces have been reported along the Hpakant-Kamaing road, prompting the KIA to impose an indefinite travel ban for civilians for safety reasons.

Nevertheless, it is reported that the junta continues to permit drivers and locals to travel into Hpakant, while maintaining their military operations.

Due to the ongoing military tensions in the Hpakant area, the Mogaung-Kamaing road remains closed for security reasons, as the military could reinforce its presence at any time.

According to local residents, daily military movements and clashes continue in the Lon Khin and Maw Si Sa areas, with both heavy and small arms fire being heard today as well.
