As the junta prepares to hold a nationwide election, the ongoing civil war in Myanmar may prolong further, said KIA/KIO Chairman General N’Ban La in his speech marking the KIO Anniversary Day.

He stated that the planned election by the military regime will divide the country into two major opposing groups, supporters and opponents of the election making negotiations and dialogue between these groups even more difficult. This, he warned, could lead to a longer and more intense civil conflict within Myanmar.

In his commemorative speech, Gen. N’Ban La also expressed goodwill and unity toward other ethnic groups and revolutionary forces that are jointly fighting against the junta. He urged all to live in solidarity, recognize and honor those who have sacrificed their lives for their people and nation, and continue striving to transform the collective strength of the people into a powerful revolutionary force.

The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) was founded on October 25, 1960, and this year marks its 65th anniversary.

The 65th KIO Day was celebrated this morning at around 7 a.m. in Laiza, according to sources.
