Landslide in Putao Township Claims Two Lives Due to Continuous Rainfall

Two people were killed in a landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall near Manse Khon village in Putao Township, Kachin State, on the night of September 19, according to local sources.


The victims lost their lives while digging for medicinal roots and clearing a plot of land. One body has been recovered while the other remains missing as search efforts continue.The deceased have been identified as residents of Wasa village in Putao Township.


One of the victims was 61 year old U Je Yaw Tar, a father of four, whose body has been found.Since early September, continuous rainfall in the Manse Khon village tract of Putao has caused rivers to swell and streams to erode surrounding areas, leading to the destruction of around 100 acres of farmland.
