According to local residents, the local travelers are traveling with fear because the inspections at the checkpoints in Waing Maw, Kachin State have become stricter.
The local woman who was self-examined at BalaMinHtin Joint Checkpoint after going shopping in the family’s car with her two children said that she was worried that the officials might harm her son and daughter.
Started from the evening of December 21st, when some unknown armed men entered and shot with guns at the joint checkpoint of BalaMinHtin Bridge, the bridge has been undergoing registration inspection and the tool box of the motorbike is opened and inspected daily.
In addition, a man who works at the farm was also checked at the militia gate of Aung Myay (1), while returning from his farm.
According to that person, during the inspection, they check the phone and the motorbike’s toolbox. In addition to interrogating questions such us where did he come from and where is he going, and he was asked to get off the bike and push it to walk about 50 feet from the gate.
“It was tired to push a motorcycle loaded with goods with fear. I was still shaking until I got home,” the above person said to Pajau Media.
In the town of Waing Maw, there are the gates to enter and exit from the town such as BalaMinHtin Joint Checkpoint, Aung Myay (1) Militia Gate, No (321) Battalion Gate and WuYang Militia Gate. Among them, the Aung Myay (1) Militia Gate and BalaMinHting Joint checkpoint are increased strict inspections and the local travelers are feeling anxious due to the strictness of inspection, according to the locals who have experienced it themselves.
