It has been learned that residents of Lang Se, in Sawlaw Township, Kachin State, have built protective fences to guard their area against the intrusion of unauthorized business operators.

On August 2, early this month, the Lang Se locals collectively erected protective barriers around their territory.

Residents had long been safeguarding the area, prohibiting entry to anyone whether business owner or company.

However, some businesspersons recently began conducting mineral exploration and road construction there. Villagers had repeatedly stopped such activities, and they have now agreed that no business owner will be allowed to enter. In accordance with the unanimous decision of the Lang Se villagers, the area has been fenced off once again to prevent any further intrusion, as stated on several Facebook pages.

Lang Se village was rebuilt after being damaged and destroyed by flooding in 2016. It is also a place that has been protected and preserved by successive generations without change, locals say.

Therefore, villagers have once again urged business operators to respect the concerns of the Lan Se villagers and to refrain from submitting work applications or carrying out any operations in the area.

The entire Lang Se town has been under the control of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) since November 10, 2024.
