Locals Protest Against the Resumption of the Myitsone Project

Local residents from Myitkyina and Waimaw Townships staged a protest against the possible resumption of the Myitsone Project, expressing their opposition.

On April 29, more than 80 local people from Myitkyina and Waimaw in Kachin State gathered along a riverside of the Ayeyarwady River to demonstrate against the project.

The protesters chanted slogans such as “Immediately stop the Myitsone dam project without public consent,” “We completely oppose the Myitsone project,” and “Let the Ayeyarwady River flow freely.” They also held signboards reading “No Myitsone Dam,” “Save Myitsone,” and “Irrawaddy is Not For Sale.”
